Our Story

With 25 years of combined experience working for a variety of mortgage lenders, both large and small, our 3 founders have developed a unique perspective on the mortgage industry. That experience led us to opening Motivation Mortgage. Our goal is to provide the most cost-effective mortgage solution on the market, with the best ongoing customer support. Our Team

Karel Thuwis

Co-Founder - NMLS 1377921

I grew up in a small town in Belgium where I got my entrepreneurial spirit by working in the family-owned bakery. When I was 17 years old, I moved to the USA and played 4 years of college basketball for the Caldwell Cougars in New Jersey. It was my wife Melissa who brought me down to Charlotte after college, and it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.

After 7 years as a mortgage consultant with large companies I was ready to take full control of my business and destiny. Starting Motivation Mortgage with Tyler and Joe truly is the American dream come true for me. My goal is not only to help families with their own American dream of home ownership, but also to help them achieve true financial freedom. I want to educate my clients on how to use a mortgage as a financial tool to build long term wealth.

In my down time I spend most of my time with friends and family. I love cooking a big Sunday breakfast with a Belgian twist. I also enjoy traveling and exploring new places and meeting new people and hearing their stories. I look forward to hearing yours!!!

Joe Garon

Co-Founder - NMLS 940790

I have called Charlotte, NC home since 2000. After attending Weddington High School, I enrolled at Appalachian State University and quickly entered the mortgage industry after graduation.Over the last decade, I have had the privilege of helping hundreds of families achieve their financial goals through either refinancing their current mortgage or purchasing a new home.

Whether you’re a first time home-buyer or a seasoned investor, my years of experience have given me the knowledge necessary to navigate any scenario while providing a first-class customer experience along the way. On top of loan origination activities, I have also fulfilled a variety of roles in the mortgage arena and as such, have a unique expertise that can’t be found anywhere else. After spending years working for large corporations, I have put my heart and soul into building a company that treats our clients like people and not like just another number.

My hands-on approach ensures that all our clients receive the best possible experience, period. When I’m not in the office you can find me on the golf course, travelling, or spending quality time with my wife Danielle and 2 dogs.

Tyler Bullock

Co-Founder - NMLS 1304179

I was born and raised in Charlotte NC. I attended the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where I earned my Entrepreneurship and Business Development Degree as well as my Operations Management degree. After college, I knew I wanted to take a sales role but was unsure of what I was really looking for. I was lucky enough to find a sales job at a mortgage company and from that point on I was hooked. It has always been a dream of mine since college to open up a business and I am very excited to make that dream come true.

The great thing about mortgages is that you can use them as a tool to not only accomplish the American Dream of owning a home, but also change your life financially for the better. Helping people improve their lives financially by showing them how to use their home as tool to create long term wealth as well as eliminate other consumer debt is why I love what we do.

In my free time you will find me traveling as much as possible, but when I am home, I am on the lake wake surfing or at Carolina Panthers and Charlotte Hornets games.
